  • Provide Your Insights to Shape Shrewsbury’s Town Center Area Multimodal Study, Take the Survey!

Community feedback is essential for the Town Center Multimodal Study because it helps to ensure that the transportation system is responsive to the needs of the people who use it. By soliciting input from the community, transportation planners can gather information about travel patterns, preferences, and concerns, which will help guide decisions about future transportation investments. Community members can take the survey online by visiting the webpage.

About

The Town of Shrewsbury is conducting a Comprehensive Transportation & Multimodal Study also known as the Town Center Multimodal Study. The Town Center Multimodal Study will help define the direction that the Town’s transportation multimodal system will take over the coming years. The Town Center Multimodal Study will identify strategies that would accommodate active transportation modes while supporting local commerce and economic development opportunities; and improving safety and comfort for all users. The Town Center Multimodal Study will build on the Shrewsbury's 2030 Strategic Plan, along with the Town Center Visioning Study, and the Town Center Parking Study. The goal of the Town Center Multimodal Study will be to document actual conditions in the study area and identify practical strategies that would better accommodate active transportation modes while supporting commerce, economic investment, community pride, and the quality of life which is appreciated in Shrewsbury.

A multi-pronged approach will be taken to reinvest in the Town Center area. Previous professional and residential studies have identified personal automobile and commercial truck traffic and the lack of bike and pedestrian accommodations to safely access the Town Center as negatively impacting the attractiveness of the area. The vehicle-oriented environment that typifies this space in the community, and is challenging for walking and bicycling, contributes to the lack of development activity.

Get Involved

A robust engagement schedule will be employed to achieve a shared vision for the future beyond just the scope of developing a Town Center Multimodal Study. The outreach process is anticipated to consist of public meetings, stakeholder group sessions, online survey(s), social media, and discussions with Town staff as well as other opportunities for the community to weigh in with input.

After engaging with the public, relevant stakeholders, and the Select Board, the Town will create an action plan that defines the priorities and clarify how these goals will be achieved. Proposed Town Center area ideas along with other strategic alternatives will be presented to the wider community for feedback. Engagement will take place online and in other public forums. Feedback on the proposed design and strategy alternatives will enable further refinement in the final report while identifying community priorities.

More details will be provided as events are scheduled, check back here periodically:
