[ARCHIVED] Important Update from the Water & Sewer Division - Sewer System Work will Continue on Thursday, 9/16

National Water Main Cleaning

Contractor National Water Main Cleaning Company and subcontractor N&M Excavating are scheduled to continue the sewer system improvement project on Thursday, September 16th. This phase of the inflow and infiltration improvement project will encompass open trench repairs of select sewer mains. This work will require the contractor to excavate around the Town's sewer main in the roadway to complete the work. They are tentatively scheduled to repair the sewer mains at 108 Prospect Street and 131 Holman Street on Thursday, September 16th, weather permitting.  There should be no interruption in sewer service due to these repairs.

Approximate locations of each of the remaining planned repairs:

  • 5 Tralee Lane
  • 9 Waterville Lane

Completed repairs:

  • On Wednesday, September 8th they repaired the Town's sewer mains on Reservoir Street at the intersection of Kemble Circle and Joseph Road at the intersection of Lancelot Road
  • On Thursday, September 9th they repaired the Town's sewer mains near 53 North Street and 9 Hawthorne Road
  • On Monday, September 13th they repaired the Town's sewer main near  3 Thoreau Circle
  • On Tuesday, September 14th they repaired the Town's sewer main at 17  Farmington Drive easement (not on road)
  • On Wednesday, September 15th they repaired the Town's sewer main at 129  Cherry Street

We will send out daily updates as the work progresses.

The purpose of the project is to remove infiltration and inflow (I/I) from entering the sanitary sewer system and upgrade critical infrastructure in your area. The project area is located throughout town and began on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, and continue through January 14, 2022, weather dependent. The regular work hours will generally be Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 5:00PM, with some exceptions for after hours. It is recommended to keep the lids of toilets closed while this work is taking place as the vacuum pressure created by the cleaning may cause air to escape though the traps and drains of your plumbing fixtures. Please follow the link below for more information about this project.

The construction will consist of trenchless wastewater pipeline rehabilitations including cleaning, inspection, testing and sealing of pipe joints and service connections, and cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) installation. Trenchless manhole rehabilitations will consist of cementitious and epoxy lining, inflow dish installation, repairing manhole cones, chimneys, walls and benches and inverts. Construction will also include open cut point repairs of gravity sewers and resetting and replacing manhole frames and covers.

While the sewer upgrade project is being conducted in your area, Weston & Sampson and the town will have a resident engineer on site inspecting the construction project. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Water & Sewer Division at (508) 841-8502. Please leave a message including your name, address, and telephone number and someone will get back to you promptly. The Town of Shrewsbury’s Water & Sewer Division thanks you for your cooperation and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.
